India gears up for the future with preparations for the arrival of 6G technology.
At present, India has adopted 4G technology and is currently in the process of rolling out 5G technology. In 2016, India’s major telecom operators launched 4G services, and since then, it has become the dominant technology in the country. As for 5G, India has been actively working on the adoption of 5G services across the country.
On Wednesday, 22nd March, India launched a 6G vision document with a 6G research and development (R&D) testbed with PM Modi while inaugurating the International Telecommunication Union office and innovation center in New Delhi. We know, From a technological perspective, India is poised to dominate this decade.
“The Indian telecom and digital model is secure and transparent and therefore, it will help to adopt new technology faster and increase Internet speed as well. Since 4G began, India has been the largest exporter of technology in the world”, said PM Modi. The monthly value of transactions in India through UPI is around Rs.800 crore. Around 7 crore of e-authentication takes place in a day.
What is a 6G Vision Document?
On Wednesday, the Department of Telecom (DoT) released a document called ‘6G Vision Document’ which expresses that 6G technology has the potential to offer a maximum speed of up to 1 terabit per second. 5G promises a speed of around 40 Mbps to 1 Gbps and has the potential to go up to 10 Gbps.
Technology Innovation Group
In 2021, the Department of Telecom (DoT) built a Technology Innovation to study and work on the future aspects and challenges of Indian technology and the 6G Vision Document has been made by them. This group includes scholars from the Ministry of Communication and Department of Telecommunications, Institution of Research and Development, and telecom service providers to work for the execution of this document.
