The biennial air show, Aero India 2023, is inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13. The five-day event, themed “The Runway to a Billion Opportunities,” is held at the India Air Force Station in Yelahanka, Bengaluru. As a delight on the first day, two F-35 stealth fighters flew from Alaska’s Eielson Air Force Base and Utah’s Hill Air Force Base to the India Air Force station at Yelahanka.
On the inaugural day of Aero India 2023, the US surprised India with the United States Air Force’s latest fifth-generation fighters, the multirole F-35A Lightning II and F-35A Joint Strike Fighter. It is the first time an F-35, developed by the US defence company Lockheed Martin, has landed in India. The two F-35 stealth fighters flew from Alaska’s Eielson Air Force Base and Utah’s Hill Air Force Base to the India Air Force station at Yelahanka in Bengaluru.
The two F-35s drew everyone’s attention shortly after they arrived in Yelahanka. Visitors and Indian Armed Forces officers took photographs with the fifth-generation fighter on the tarmac. The aircraft did not participate in any demonstrations on February 13 but is estimated to participate on Day 2 of the airshow.
During the airshow Aero India 2023, the F-35A Lightning will be on static display while the F-35A Lightning II demonstration team will demonstrate its remarkable aerial capabilities.
The F-35A Lightning II is the USAF’s newest fifth-generation fighter, capable of stealth, supersonic flight, and multi-role operations. A 3-stage fan, a single-stage high-pressure turbine, a 6-stage compressor, an annular combustor, and a 2-stage low-pressure turbine power the F-35’s engine. The engine has a thrust of 43,000 pounds.
