OpenAI has released GPT-4, the latest version of its hugely popular artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT.

The new model can respond to images – providing recipe suggestions from photos of ingredients, for example, as well as writing captions and descriptions.

ChatGPT answers questions using natural human-like language, and it can also mimic other writing styles such as songwriters and authors, using the internet as it was in 2021 as its knowledge database. There are concerns that it could one day take over many jobs currently done by humans.

OpenAI said it had spent six months on safety features for GPT-4, and had trained it on human feedback. However it warned that it may still be prone to sharing disinformation.GPT-4 will initially be available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers, who pay $20 per month for premium access to the service.

It’s already powering Microsoft’s Bing search engine platform. The tech giant has invested $10b into OpenAI.

GPT-4, like ChatGPT, is a type of generative artificial intelligence. Generative AI uses algorithms and predictive text to create new content based on prompts.

GPT-4 has “more advanced reasoning skills” than ChatGPT, OpenAI said. The model can, for example, find available meeting times for three schedules.

OpenAI also announced new partnerships with language learning app Duolingo and Be My Eyes, an application for the visually impaired, to create AI Chatbots which can assist their users using natural language.

However, like its predecessors, OpenAI has warned that GPT-4 is still not fully reliable and may “hallucinate” – a phenomenon where AI invents facts or makes reasoning errors.

WHAT ARE THE CAPABILITIES OF GPT-4?

The latest version has outperformed its predecessor in the U.S. bar exam and the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). GPT-4 can also help individuals calculate their taxes, a demonstration by Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s president, showed.

The demo showed it could take a photo of a hand-drawn mock-up for a simple website and create a real one. Be My Eyes, an app that caters to visually impaired people, will provide a virtual volunteer too ..

Announcement of ChatGPT Plus

OpenAI’s ChatGPT has now officially launched ChatGPT Plus in India. ChatGPT Plus is a new and paid version of ChatGPT that aims to improve the AI experience for users during rush hours. On February 1, 2023, OpenAI had launched ChatGPT Plus, which was available only in the US.

Available at $20/month which is roughly (INR 1650), the model has faster response rate and priority access to new features and improvements. The company said that it is also exploring options for lower-cost plans, business plans, and data packs for wider availability.

The Microsoft-backed company released ‘ChatGPT Professional’ in January 2023 at $42 every month. But soon took the “experimental” subscription model down. There has been no announcements about this ever since. ChatGPT Professional had access to the same features as ChatGPT Plus, but at a lower rate.

Benefits

The company informs that ChatGPT Plus has benefits like no blackout windows and faster responses with no throttling. The premium version is also said to deliver as many messages as you want and priority access to new features and improvements.

OpenAI’s web traffic touched 672 million visits in February, mere three months after the launch in November 2022. Visits have exploded to over 36 times in the span of just two months. ChatGPT controls over 92p per cent of total website traffic.
