Since Manish Sisodia’s arrest in the Delhi excise scam case, the opposition has come together to criticize the BJP. But, Congress stayed quiet until late Monday night, at which point it condemned the ruling party for abusing the CIA.
Workers from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have been objecting after the arrest of Mr. Manish Sisodia. At the same time, Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party has received support on Twitter from all significant opposition groups. Congress was the lone exception to this rule. Until late Monday night, Congress remained silent about the AAP’s allegations of abuse of the central investigative agencies.
Congress Speaks Up
After three terms in office following Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption campaign, the Congress unit in Delhi is at odds with the AAP. Its officials have backed Sisodia’s arrest and added that Arvind Kejriwal should be following. Jairam Ramesh, the in-charge of the Congress’ media, tweeted late on Monday evening.
The Congress party was firmly aligned with the opposition after this tweet and not with AAP.
The Union Of Opposition Parties
The opposition has claimed that the BJP-led government has been using Central agencies to attack them since it took office. As a result, famous opposition figures have all been inspected, accused of corruption, and detained.
The arrest of Mr Sisodia—the public face of the AAP’s transformation of Delhi schools—seems to have drawn into opposition resentment and sparked a backlash towards the ruling party.
Congress member Derek O’Brien praised Manish Sisodia.
While Samajwadi party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticizes the BJP government, saying, “The arrest of Manish Sisodia has proved that the BJP government has already accepted its defeat before 2024. That is why it implicates the opposition political forces in different states in false cases, but the struggling people are unafraid of going to jail.
How long can you keep the truth under arrest?”
Sanjay Raut, a prominent Shiv Sena’s Thackeray faction member and an opposition leader imprisoned until recently, decided to consider the big picture.
Sisodia’s arrest is “a part of the Modi Government scheme to weaponize Central Investigative Agencies to target opposition party leaders,” according to a statement from the CPM.
“Cases are brought against leaders, and arrests are made in almost every state where an opposition party controls the government to topple those administrations. The Modi government is using central agencies to undermine democracy in India after failing to win elections through democratic means, specifically targeting the opposition,” CPM stated.
Telangana’s ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi has also denounced the detention, Nitish Kumar’s Janta Dal United, Tejashwi Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal, and Congress supporter Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.
