Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was sent to judicial custody till the 20th of March as he was accused of the excise policy scam case he will be further lodged in the central jail number 1 of Tihar Jail in Delhi.
Minister recalls how his ‘happy hour ended’, Sisodia was presented before a special judge MK Nagpal on the expiry of his seven-day custodial interrogation. The CBI has clearly stated that it doesn’t require the custody of a Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader.
A jail official said Sisodia was brought to Tihar following the court order and he will be lodged in jail number – 1 after the completion of some due formalities according to a report released by Press Trust of India (PTI).
Last week Sisodia was arrested in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped policy for 2021- 2022 the CBI summoned him for questioning on 19th February 2023 he also appealed before the agency to give him a new date as he was busy with budget preparations.
The court has allowed Sisodia to carry the Bhagavad Gita, spectacles and medicines, etc., to jail and has directed the Tihar Jail authorities to consider his request to be allowed to Vipassana meditation.
A city court on Saturday also extended the CBI custody of the former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister by two days. The court said that Sidodia’s bail plea hearing will take place on 10th March 2023.
While Sisodia was being taken to a court on Saturday meanwhile some workers of the Aam Aadmi Party staged a protest in central Delhi demanding his release.
Few developments in the case –
Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Saturday extended two days for the CBI custody of Manish Sisodia to confront him with material witnesses he was arrested under intent to defraud under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Sisodia moved to the Delhi Court, seeking bail on Friday in his bail plea Sisodia clearly mentioned that he would appear before the central probe agency whatever he was called.
In his bail application, he also stated that no fruitful purpose would be served by keeping him in custody as all the recoveries have already been made, adding that other accused people arrested in the case have already been granted bail.
Rs. 5 crore in two payments –
15 people, including Delhi Deputy CM, were named in the FIR related to criminal conspiracy and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act; the FIR was based on a reference from L- G Saxena.
Sisodia was grilled for eight hours before being arrested, with sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation justifying the need for custodial interrogation, saying the Delhi minister’s answers were not satisfactory and that he was not cooperating.
The arrest has become a big blow to the AAP government, given their stature in the State Cabinet he holds 18 portfolios, including Finance, Planning, Land and Building, Vigilance, Services, Tourism, Labor, Employment, Public works department, Health Industries, Power, Home, Urban Development, Irrigation and Flood Control, and Water.
Tweeting in Sisodia’s favor, Kejriwal said “Manish is innocent. This is dirty politics. His arrest has angered people. People are watching everything. People now understand everything and will give reply to this. It will boost our spirit and our struggle will only get stronger.”
The investigators of CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch grilled the Minister on various aspects of the excise policy, his alleged links with Dinesh Arora, who has turned approver in the case, and other accused mentioned in the FIR and the details of message exchanges from multiple phones among others.
