King Charles visit to France suspended due to protests

King Charles III’s planned visit to France has been postponed.  The decision was taken due to ongoing protests in France over pension reforms.  The tour was scheduled to begin on Sunday.  The French President’s Office announced this information.

King Charles III’s visit has been postponed in the wake of yet another announcement of nationwide protests against pension reform on Tuesday, March 28, the presidency said in a statement.  The tour was initially scheduled for March 26-28. 

King Charles III was due to arrive in France with Queen Consort Camilla on Sunday evening.  He spent a day in Paris on Monday and traveled southwest to Bordeaux on Tuesday 

The trip to France was to be King Charles III’s first overseas trip as sovereign since ascending to the throne last September.  After France, he was supposed to go to Germany on Wednesday. 

The French presidency said the decision was made after a phone call between President Emmanuel Macron and the king on Friday morning.  The statement also mentioned that the state visit will be rescheduled as soon as possible.
