The human body has two types of cholesterol, good and bad. Good cholesterol is high- density lipoprotein (HDL) which is good for human beings and can have the potential to lower your risk for Heart diseases and stroke. Bad cholesterol (LDL) can harm the human body which leads to Heart attacks and growth of various heart diseases.
‘Statin’ is a drug, also known as HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors that are used to lower the cholesterol level in the blood by blocking the work of HMG-CoA enzymes. They are commonly prescribed to those who have high levels of low – density lipoprotein and are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease. In many cases.
They have been shown to lower the risk of heart disease up to 50%. Although Statins are considered safe and effective, they can have some side effects, such as muscle pain, liver damage, and increased risk of developing type-2 Diabetes. For this concern, scientists have made an effective non-statin alternative called ‘Nexlatol’.
Boon for Heart Patients
‘Nexlatol’( Bempedoic Acid) can be a revolutionary drug for those who have cardiovascular diseases. Recently, In US, they got a permission to use as an alternative. Every year, up to 8% of the world population die due to a rise in cholesterol levels in the body.
Esperion Therapeutics is the manufacturer of this drug named ‘ Nexlatol’. According to the report published by ‘The New England Journal of Medicine’, Bempedoic Acid is effective in the treatment of heart-related diseases. Nexlatol have passed different tests taken by researchers including 14,000 people who have been treated in last three years of the journey.
“ Regular consumption of Bempedoic Acid can reduce the risk of LDL up to 21% and death rate up to 13%. Eventually, it could be a great option for those who have severe side effects due to Statin,” says Dr Steven Nissen, Cardiologist from Cleveland Clinic.
Scientists say, “ 20% of heart patients avoided the consumption of Statin in the last two decades”.
Unlike Statin, the muscles do not get affected by Bempedoic Acid and that’s why Uric acid and Creatinine level increases in blood. Arthritis patients can get severely damaged due to the Statin drug.
