Luv Ranjan’s latest romcom is in theatres and has received mixed reviews. This article goes over the basic plot and what the critics had to say about the film.
Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is a 2023 Indian romantic comedy film written by Rahul Mody and Luv Ranjan and produced by Luv Ranjan. Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor serve as the leading cast, while Anubhav Singh Bassi, Dimple Kapadia, and Boney Kapoor play significant supporting parts. Luv Films and T-Series Films jointly produce this venture.
Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Plot:
Mickey is the son of Ramesh Arora, a rich business magnate, and resides with his family in Delhi. He and his best friend, Manu Dabbas, covertly assist people in ending relationships by working as breakup consultants. Manu’s fiancée Kinchi and her friend Tinni join Mickey and Manu on their trip to Spain for Manu’s bachelor celebration.
There, Mickey and Tinni hook up and ultimately fall in love with each other. Upon their return, Manu and Kinchi exchange vows, and Mickey and Tinni meet each other’s families. After both families approved their engagement, the couple began planning their wedding. Tinni chooses to end her relationship with Mickey because she believes she is not ready for a long-term commitment.
Mickey recommends that Tinni and her partner match their respective horoscopes and that the marriage may be annulled if they do not. The plan, however, fails because their horoscopes coincide precisely. Soon after learning that the customer is none other than Tinni, Mickey is devastated that she chose not to talk to him about the situation and attempt to resolve it.
He makes the decision to cooperate and defeat Tinni at her own game. He advises Tinni to take a “jealousy exam,” which could result in their separation. Mickey witnesses Tinni dancing seductively with a man she hired to pose as an old acquaintance of hers. Mickey, however, acts as if he is unaware and doesn’t care.
The movie also marks the acting debut of stand-up comedian Anubhav Singh Bassi and the Hindi film debut of actress Monica Chaudhary. The Hindustan Times said, “This boy-meets-girl story, of flirting, falling in love, and then falling out of it equally soon, is as jaded as it gets.
Families get involved, and finally, there is a climax that’s no rocket science to guess! Director Luv Ranjan’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor is a film that plays with the extremes. The funny parts are extremely funny, and the boring parts are intolerably boring.”
What do reviews say about the movie?
In its review of the movie, the Hindu said, “While the theme is relatable, performances perky, and the mood naturally cheerful, the nuts and bolts of the story demand the suspension of disbelief to be hammered through.
Ranjan loves to see relationships from a male gaze, and here again, the title makes it amply clear whose point of view it is. The difference from his previous films is that here he attempts to create some sense of gender parity when it comes to investing in love before deciding to stand behind the male protagonist.
Even as it gently nudges the audience to see the point of view of a financially-independent woman, the film propagates the notion that she sees a problem where none exists and makes much ado about nothing.”
The movie is currently in theatres and has received mixed responses from critics and the audience alike. It’s expected to do good business owing to its release clashing with the Holi Weekend and International Women’s Day but ultimately, only time will tell.
