Bharat Jodo Yatra was the flagship event of the Indian National Congress, Or one can say that it was an attempt to revive The Congress. The Congress that did not recover from the wounds of the 2014 general elections, the 2019 general elections is a story of its own where the congress did not even manage to get the minimum seats to make it to the opposition. All this added up and made INC virtually irrelevant in national politics, as the number of ruled states also fell drastically in 2014 BJP ruled in just 6 states and now the footprint of BJP is at its peak, BJP and its allies rule the majority of states.
Top Down view of Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Well, this article is not about how BJP succeeded in winning the majority of the states, it’s about how the Congress pulled off a Bharat Jodo Yatra or the biggest publicity stunt in the history of Con
gress. The Yatra started on the 7th of September, 2022 and it was started with a target of covering 4000+ plus kilometres and covering India from the southernmost part to the northernmost part currently under Indian Administration. The states which were going to be covered were Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. This constituted more than 30% of the population.
Participants and the fellow Leaders Walking
The Yatra seems to be a colossal success from the Holistic view and the visuals which went viral across the internet, people from various backgrounds came and walked with Rahul Gandhi, who is the sitting MP from the constituency of Wayanad. Leaders from various political parties joined him and showed that they supported the cause which was – “To reunite India from the hatred”.
Yatra and the Fundamental Problems
Rahul Gandhi was the showstopper for the event, even though he has not got a very track record with winning elections, but the blame here is not on him but the way the whole Yatra was planned, A very important state Gujarat was missing the state where the BJP is the Apex Predator even though nothing as such stand in the realm of democratic setup, yet the state was soon going to undergo Elections, where unfortunately the Congress while the question: What if the Yatra had touched Gujrat would make a difference stays imminent and unanswered.
The Yatra also evoked controversies when Gandhi was attacked by the BJP during the first phase of the campaign in Tamil Nadu for donning a Burberry T-shirt that was supposedly valued at Rs 41,000. In Tamil Nadu, the Yatra sparked when RaGa met an alleged Christian extremist. The controversies and the allegations only ended when the Yatra was over.
To conclude…
The Yatra is over but the impact of the same will be only read when the above-mentioned states move into elections, as the result will be very well impacted by The Bharat Jodo Yatra whether they will be Positive or will prove problematic will still remain a question that will only be answered by the time coming through.
. According to inside reports Congress is working on a Bharat Jodo Yatra 2.0 which will cover the country from a span of west to east or vice-versa. This might fill in the dots left by the Bharat Jodo Yatra 1 and is sighted as a ray of Hope for the Indian National Congress. The Yatra can also be paraphrased and boiled down to RaGa’s preparation for the upcoming general elections and an bid to make BJP’s road to 2024: History or lose situation.
