One of the world’s active volcanoes, Mount Merapi erupted and covered communities in ash. According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency, there have been no reports of fatalities.
The ash cloud, according to the Merapi Volcano Observatory, rose 9,600 feet above the peak. After the eruption, which was detected at 12:12 pm, authorities set up a limited area seven kilometres from the crater.
Mount Merapi‘s ash has impacted a total of eight nearby villages.
More than 300 people were killed by the volcano’s most recent major eruption in 2010, which also resulted in the evacuation of about 280,000 locals. It was the most violent explosion on Merapi since the 1,300 or so fatalities in 1930. In 1994, an eruption killed about 60 individuals. Since exhibiting renewed activity in 2020, the volcano’s alert status has remained at the second-highest level.
