Women’s IPL is also a commodity!  BCCI will get a whopping ‘ 50,000 ‘ crores for media rights for 5 years

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has signed a deal with media rights holders Star India Pvt Ltd for a whopping Rs 50,000 crore ($7.4 billion) for the Indian Premier League (IPL) .

Over  the next five years, with the launch of a women’s IPL and an additional edition of the men’s tournament. Media rights for women’s IPL have been sold and the BCCI will get crores of rupees from this.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that it will start the Women’s Indian Premier League this year. BCCI has also started preparations for this. 

BCCI has made a big announcement about media rights on Monday.

Viacom 18 Media Pvt Ltd has won the media rights of Women’s IPL for five years from 2023 to 2027 as announced by the BCCI. The BCCI had invited tenders for the media rights of the Women’s IPL 2023 to 2027 seasons a few days ago.

Meanwhile, after all these processes, now BCCI informed that Viacom 18 company has bought the media rights. 

These media rights are for both television and digital media.

BCCI announces Media Rights for the Women’s IPL Seasons 2023-2027

Viacom 18 has won these media rights with a bid of Rs 951 crore. According to this bid, the company will pay BCCI Rs 7.09 crores per match. 

Argus Partners was the legal advisor to BCCI in the process of auctioning these media rights.

In a tweet, he wrote, ‘Congratulations to Viacom 18 for winning media rights for Women’s IPL. Thank you for your faith in BCCI. 

Viacom has bought the rights for 5 years for Rs 951 crore and each match will cost Rs 7.09 crore. This is a big milestone in women’s cricket.’

He also further wrote that ‘After equal pay, media rights for women’s IPL have taken a historic step today. 

An important and huge step for the empowerment of women cricket in India. This will increase participation in women’s cricket at all ages. This is really a new look.’

Apart from this, Indian cricketers Dinesh Karthik, VVS Laxman and Mithali Raj have also praised this decision.

 BCCI President Roger Binny has also congratulated the Viacom18 company.

Meanwhile, 5 teams in Women’s IPL will also be announced on January 25 after media rights. 

There is talk of 8 teams in the men’s IPL race for this.
