A statement from LG’s office said that the LG has given instructions to enhance policing and its visibility, speeding up construction of building for fast-track courts dealing with women safety issues and uniting street lights with 311 app.

On 9th February 2023, in a meeting chaired by LG VX Saxena to discuss women safety measures, the Delhi Police informed that it will soon start off with the recruitment of 6000 personnel including 3000 lady cops to improve policing. In the meeting, he emphasized upon the need to increase representation of Delhi Police women personnel.
As per a statement from LG’s office, Saxena also instructed to enhance policing and its visibility, speeding up construction of buildings for fast-track courts dealing with women safety issues and uniting street lights with 311 app.
The LG, on being enlightened that 1406 dark spots in the national capital are still left to be illuminated, immediately directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to take a month’s time and complete the work. According to a statement, LG expressed his disappointment over timely repair of street lights to illuminate dark spots in the city.
The officials also informed LG that despite 32 judges were appointed in fast-track courts to ensure women safety, yet there was an “acute shortage” of courtroom and its functioning. On the other hand, The Public Works Department (PWD) enlightened the LG on the matter related to courtrooms construction. They informed that since 2017-18, the construction work was pending with the Delhi government and decision is yet to be taken on the same.
LG said that he will be involved in the construction matter with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and also look after the delay in illuminating of dark spots and replacement of street lights with LED.
He stressed upon the need to hold more campaigns, sensitizing young teenage boys through gender workshops and amended curricula by the Education department and other agencies respectively. A significant improvement of disposal of cases by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was informed in the meeting as well.
Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal & senior police and administrative officers were present in the meeting.
