The BJP slammed the Congress almost immediately. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju twitted, “I sincerely request people not to insult a great soul like Veer Savarkar.”
The Congress and the BJP face – off in another political showdown this time over BJP’s iconic figure Veer Savarkar when Congress posted a photo with a caption ‘invoking Veer Savarkar’.
In a photograph posted on the Twitter handle wherein, Rahul Gandhi is seen driving his car and the caption says, “Did you think I am Savarkar…The name is Rahul Gandhi”, this particular post got nearly about 100,000 views on Twitter within one hour of posting.

Savarkar has been in the center of the political battle in poll-bound Karnataka. Last month, tension gripped Yadgir city in Karnataka after a row broke out over naming of a junction after 18th century Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan or BJP’s iconic figure Veer Savarkar.
Even as the BJP continues to demand an apology from Rahul Gandhi over his “democracy under attack”, remarks that he made in London the Congress on Sunday took a jibe at the saffron party and tweeted and posted a smiling photo of Rahul Gandhi in the driver’s seat of a car.
Rahul Gandhi and the Congress have stuck to their ground that there is nothing to apologize for as the MP did not insult India or its democracy.
The Congress also slammed the Delhi police for sending a team to Rahul Gandhi’s residence seeking more information on his comments that he met two women who claimed to be gangraped.
After Rahul Gandhi’s preliminary response, which was sent shortly before 4 pm, called the police action “unprecedented” and asked if it had anything to do with his position on the Adani issue taken both inside and outside Parliament, PTI reported citing sources.
Meeting with Delhi police officials, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was seen leaving his residence. The Congress leader issued the 10-point response hours after a Delhi Police team knocked on his door for the third time in five days.
