In India, the daily risky races continue despite any barriers; they too have to fill their stomachs. The life of food delivery riders is getting harder day by day. They are on the verge of sorrow and brutality from their customers. They run to deliver food putting their life at risk. Customers often forget the fact that food delivery riders are also human beings.

The poorly maintained roads in India make it a herculean task for the delivery riders to reach their destination on time. Sometimes, they work forgetting the fact that they too have a family to feed waiting for them back home, because even a five-minute delayed delivery will earn them words of brutality and disrespect.

A short interview with some of the delivery riders earned a whole bunch of incidents they have faced over the course of time. When people order food from software applications, they treat even these human beings as software and call them by names like Swiggy and Zomato.

They often face high mental pressure, especially during the order received during the night shifts due to this they lack their night meals at times. There is stiff competition between these food delivery companies and the pressure is all dumped onto these food delivery riders, the actual job is done by them.

Some of them even lose their lives on the way to the location, their voices are left unheard and their lives have no cost or value. The customers live in this India where there are poorly developed and conditioned roads, but they forget all this when the food they ordered is a few minutes delayed. They lack patience and call the respective companies and complaint about them.

Zomato’s concept of ‘ten minutes delivery’ is itself a wrong concept as it is difficult, especially in cities like Bangalore which is home to traffic jams, this can only spike their mental pressure and in turn, risk their lives. There are also old people who take up this job to earn one time’s meal, they are often left disrespected and humiliated.

The customers also snatch the phones of the delivery partners, beat them, and leave them with a huge debt, which even the company doesn’t care about. Most people refuse to understand this profession. The delivery riders are treated with the concept of do or die. No one cares about their safety or lives.

Labor is cheap in this field and there is no fixed income but there is a reduction even in the less amount paid to them. Even though the petrol price had spiked, their income was less leaving them to try hard to make both ends meet. They too are human beings who are seeking to live a pleasant life with their family, it’s not that they want to do this job, but their circumstances. They are choiceless at times in life, and that’s when they take up jobs like this. The food delivery riders are also humans. They too are heroes who deserve respect and courtesy for the service they provide. Nothing much, at least a smile from the bottom of the heart for the pain and pressure they are undergoing to fill a stomach.
