It has been over ten years since the first World Happiness Report was published. And it is exactly ten years since the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/281, proclaiming 20 March to be observed annually as the International Day of Happiness.

Since then, more and more people have come to believe that our success as countries should be judged by the happiness of our people. There is also a growing consensus about how happiness should be measured. This consensus means that national happiness can now become an operational objective for governments.

The report is published by the sustainable development solutions network, a global initiative of the United Nations. Income, health, having someone to count on, having a sense of freedom to make key life decisions, generosity, and the absence of corruption all play strong roles in supporting life evaluations, the report said. This annual report uses data from international surveys to assess the level of happiness in more than 150 nations.

According to the 2023 World Happiness Report, Finland is the happiest country in the world for the sixth year in a row. India’s position in the World Happiness Report has improved from 136 to 126.

The 2023 World Happiness Report has been released, and it shows that Finland remains the happiest country in the world for the sixth year in a row. Denmark, Iceland, Israel, and the Netherlands are the next happiest countries, with other European countries such as Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, and Luxembourg also making the top 10. The rankings are based on data from the main life evaluation question in the Gallup World Poll, which measures how happy citizens perceive themselves to be.

Benevolence, meaning the act of kindness or an inclination to be kind, is about 25% higher than it was pre-pandemic.

India’s position in the World Happiness Report?

2022 has been a year of crises for the world, starting with the Covid-19 pandemic to war in Ukraine, inflation, earthquakes, and several other climatic disasters. The World Happiness Report 2023 revealed Indians are unhappier than people in countries facing war or crisis like Ukraine, Russia, Pakistan, Iraq, and Sri Lanka. India is ranked 126 out of 137 countries. India’s position in the World Happiness Report has improved from 136 to 126, although it is still behind its neighboring countries such as Nepal, China, and Bangladesh. Despite having the world’s fastest-growing economy, India’s ranking in the report has consistently been low, leading some to question how it can be ranked lower than countries in turmoil.

Most unhappy countries of the world?

The World Happiness Report has ranked Afghanistan as the least happy country out of the 137 nations surveyed. The report also highlighted other nations such as Lebanon, Zimbabwe, and the Democratic Republic of Congo as being among the unhappiest countries, largely due to factors such as high levels of corruption and low life expectancy.

The effectiveness of the government has a major influence on the human happiness of the people. Ordinary acts of kindness, including lending a hand to a stranger giving to charity, volunteering, and other prosocial acts are all above pre-pandemic levels.
