On Tuesday Manchester United play their first game of the year in their Premier League match against Bournemouth at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are recently coming off a late 1-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers last Saturday, while Bournemouth are still stuck in their dismal form with a 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace.

Manchester United is currently fourth-placed in the league, sitting 4 points behind second-placed home rivals Manchester City. They are also 2 points behind Newcastle with a game in hand. A win today would propel Manchester United to third place gaining a 5-point lead over Tottenham Hotspurs.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth is in fifteenth place with just 4 wins this season. They have lost 4 of their last 5 games in the league with their recent loss coming against Crystal Palace at home. The Cherries will be hoping to overturn their descent to the bottom of the league.

Marcus Rashford has been at the top of his game by continuing his stellar form since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Coming off the bench, he scored the late 76th-minute winner against the Wolves moving them up to the fourth place. Compared to last year’s tally of only 5 goals, Rashford has so far scored 10 goals, proving to be a key piece in the Red Devils’ lineup. Erik ten Hag’s side had a forgettable start to the season with 2 consecutive losses, however, they have recovered themselves well by winning 10 matches, drawing 2, and losing only 2. Their last loss came against rivals Manchester City way back in October.

World Cup-winning defender Lisandro Martinez will likely start in the upcoming encounter after a week of training. Luke Shaw will have to move to left back position and Aaron Wan-Bissaka might continue his role as a right-back if Diogo Dalot misses this game as well due to his hamstring injury. It means that Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof will have to start the game on the bench again. Erik ten Hag will keep the remaining squad the same while adding Rashford alongside Antony and Martial.

Gary O’Neil’s side is currently facing huge problems as midfielder Philip Billing will be doubtful due to his hip problem. The Danish player had to walk away early in the Crystal Palace defeat. Siriski Dembele may likely play instead. Kieffer Moore and Dominic Solanke will be leading the attack with much hope on Solanke as he has scored 3 goals as well as assisted 3 times this season.

Between them, 18 matches have been played with United winning 12 of them while Bournemouth has won only 3, as well as drawing 3 times.

Considering that Manchester United is on a high currently, compared to dismal Bournemouth, it is very likely that this encounter may go in the favor of the Red Devils. However, Bournemouth will be looking to cause a big upset as well considering that Manchester United has the third-worst home record this season.
