New Zealand, India’s all time Nightmare

Once again New Zealand has shattered India’s dreams. New Zealand defeated India 4-5 in the hockey match between India and New Zealand on Sunday. Let us tell you that if India had won this match, then the quarter final ticket would have been confirmed for it. The match ended in a 3-3 draw after which New Zealand defeated India in the penalty shootout. Till now the most successful team in the Hockey World Cup is Pakistan which has won the World Cup 4 times.  At the same time, Australia and Netherlands have won this title three times.   Germany holds the record of winning the title twice. Belgium and India have won this tournament once. The name comes in scoring goals from India.  Lalit Upadhyay, Sukhjit Singh and Varun Kumar.  On the other hand, Sam Land hit a goal for New Zealand and Ken Russell and Sean Findlay scored one goal each from the penalty corner. The score was tied even after the first five sets of strikes in the penalty shootout and the match eventually went out of India’s hands in sudden death.  Captain Harmanpreet Singh had a golden chance to seal India’s victory in sudden death, but he failed to convert as experienced goalkeeper PR Sreejesh made some brilliant saves to leave India trailing 2-3.  He then got injured during another save in sudden death.   After this, Krishan Pathak played the role of goalkeeper in the next three rounds of sudden death.  In the end, Shamsher Singh missed the goal and Sam Lane scored to give New Zealand the win.

Be it cricket or hockey, New Zealand has always shattered India’s World Cup dreams.

New Zealand has defeated India many times in T20 World Cup, Cricket World Cup and World Test Championship everywhere.  Be it knockout match or league match! If we look at the series of defeats from 2016, then in 2016 T20 World Cup, the match in 2017 Champions Trophy was cancelled.  New Zealand beat India in the 2019 World Cup semi-finals.  In 2020-21 New Zealand defeated India in the final of the World Test Championship.  At the same time, in the 2021 T20 World Cup, New Zealand defeated India and threw them out of the World Cup.


There were many mistakes in this match from the Indian side, like Shamsher Singh missed two goals, Captain Harmanpreet missed one goal, Abhishek one and Sukhjeet Singh missed one goal.In regulation time, India earned 11 penalty corners and converted two of them while New Zealand got only two penalty corners. Due to the lack of attention of the government, the standard of hockey is falling day by day.  The same channels are not buying the broadcasting rights.
