Twitter launches Blue tick subscription in India; Will it succeed?

Twitter launched its blue tick subscription service known as Twitter Blue in India, which enables users to get their account verified and get a blue tick by paying money. 

Twitter has launched 2 plans for this service, the first one is a monthly plan which is 650 rupees on the web and 900 rupees for mobile devices. The other one is the annual plan of 6,800 rupees per year. The annual plan will prove less costly for the users as it will translate to 566 rupees per month for the users. 

Reactions 

Soon after Elon Musk announced the system of charging blue ticks users it got mixed reactions, many users criticized the move and accused Musk of being greedy and promoting “unethical capitalism.” While many users praised the move and called it a historic act for promoting equality. Those who always crave VIP status on social media and have a habit of showing off also loved the decision.  

The mixed reactions came from celebrities also, some of them raised the question that what would happen if fake accounts of celebrities got verified, and some celebs backed the decision because it will be good for the economy.  

For most users, this decision was very healthy just for the memes as this move became a meme trend as soon as it was announced. 

Chances of Success 

As already said there were mixed reactions from the mass, so there are very less chances for this experiment to succeed a hundred percent.  

In foreign countries, the service is giving average results though many users switched to the subscription many users even left the platform as they didn’t want to pay for a mere blue tick. 

The biggest drawback of this service is bots and fake accounts, even Elon Musk accepted the trouble of bot accounts on the platform. 

The concept of a verified account gives a license of trust to that account, but when fake accounts would get verification then they could spread fake news easily and sooner this service will become a subject of disapproval. 

In India, the trend of taking premium services of any app is very rare. Only a few people take the service and most people call it an unnecessary need or in simpler terms a waste of money. In the case of Netflix, Amazon Prime, and other paid OTT services, very few people subscribe to them. 

Secondly and most importantly, the cost of the subscription is way too far for the service they are offering, the blue tick will cost 900 rupees for a month and will just give users a certificate of verification. So, no one will bother to pay for it. 

Conclusion 

The paid blue tick service of Twitter could be a failure due to the loopholes and drawbacks of the service still many users will find it fun to get a blue tick for their account. 

The service will flourish only after it reduces its cost and offers more things for the users. One thing is clear this service will become a status symbol for the youth and they boast after taking it on social media.
