Women’s 1st Title – U19 World Cup

The Indian Under-19 women’s cricket team has created history by winning the Under-19 T20 World Cup. In the final match of India vs England on 29 January, this team led by Shafali Verma hoisted its flag all over the world. In men’s cricket, the Under-19 World Cup has been happening for a long time.  But this time ICC started in the T20 format focusing on Women’s cricket, but the Under-19 World Cup was started and India won it. 

The senior women’s team has also played in World Cup finals and T20 World Cup finals many times, but have not been able to win even once, but the U-19 team has proved itself for the first time.

Sadhu got the title Man of the Match of the final match and Grace Scrivens was selected Man of the Series for this World Cup. Talk about records in this World Cup, then most runs, most sixes, most fours, best strike rate, best batting average, all these records are in the name of Indian players, out of which two names are there.  Shafali Verma and Shweta Sehrawat.

Benefits for U19 players

The first season of Women’s IPL is to be played in the year 2023 itself, whose teams have been auctioned.  Broadcasting rights have been sold.  Now very soon the players are going to have an option.  In such a situation, players from the Under-19 team will also be selected in the IPL.

In this IPL, the eyes of the franchise will be fixed on the players who have done very well in the Under-19.  Shafali Verma who is also a part of the senior team followed by Richa Ghosh who is a wicket keeper batsman and also a part of the senior team.  The same players like Shweta Sehrawat, Parshvi Chopra, Archana Devi and Soumya Tiwari who have made a name for themselves in the under-19s on the basis of their bat, ball and fielding.  Franchises will have an eye on him.

Conclusion

The BCCI in India and the ICC all over the world are now thinking a lot about women’s cricket.  It is a very commendable step by the ICC to think about the Under-19 World Cup.  At the same time, the BCCI thought of bringing Women’s IPL.  This is also a commendable step.After these decisions, we can hope that now women’s cricket will be seen at a different height.
