Now that December is here and 2022 has passed at a rate of Mach 10, it is time to rank the finest films of the year. It’s been a big year, with Pictures back in business, big blockbusters capturing our attention, and a slew of cinematic surprises winning us over. The year of the multiverse has passed. Searing social critique has been presented throughout the year in the shape of captivating crowd-pleasers. The past year has seen auteurs take on enormous budgets and do intriguing things with them. The Top 10 below was compiled from each voter’s ballots after the year’s main releases were all released. As usual, we’re excluding UK release dates and examining movies that have both big-screen and direct-to-home broadcast releases (which, half the time, we also wished we were watching in a cinema). Movies have introduced us to a variety of different worlds and experiences throughout the last 12 months, whether they be action, excitement, crime romance, or comedies. This year has been a rock.

Kiranraj K’s directorial 777 Charlie is an adventure comedy that stars Rakshit Shetty in the main lead role. The small film made huge profits for those who invested in it and went on to churn out over 100 crores at the box office. Backed by G.S. Gupta and Rakshit Shetty under Paramvah Studios.

IMDB Ratings: 8.8

 Based on the life of Indian Space Research Organization scientist Nambi Narayanan, who was framed for being a spy and arrested in 1994. Though free, he continues to fight for justice against the officials who falsely implicated him.

Seven years after the case related to Vijay and his family was closed, a series of unexpected events bring a truth to light that threatens to change everything for the Salgaonkars.

Tamil action thriller “Vikram” stars Kamal Haasan aka Ulganayagan in the titular role. The film was released pan-India and emerged as the 3rd highest-grossing Tamil movie of all time. It stars powerhouses of south cinemas Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi and Haasan. It also has a cameo appearance by Suriya.

Prashanth Neel’s directorial had created a huge pre-release buzz for part 2 due to the popularity of part 1 across India. Sandalwood’s offering was released in pan India in multiple languages and emerged as the highest-grossing film in 2022, the all-time 2nd highest-grosser in India, and the all-time third highest-grossing Indian film WW.

Box Office Collection (WW): 58.2 Cr

The biographical action film is based on the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. It stars Adivi Sesh, Prakash Raj, Sobhita Dhulipala and Saiee Manjrekar in key roles. It is a bilingual film (Telugu and Hindi). It is produced by Mahesh Babu’s G Mahesh Babu Entertainment.

  1. Kashmir Files 

IMDb Ratings: 8.3

Krishna endeavours to uncover the reason behind his parents’ brutal killings in Kashmir. He is shocked to uncover a web of lies and conspiracies in connection with the massive genocide.

  1. RRR

IMDb Rating: 8/10

Ace filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR created havoc at the box office. It is known that Rajamouli has a Midas touch, hence RRR had to perform well at the box office. It was released in March 2022 and went on to become the highest-grossing Indian film in 2022 and remains at the top position until Yash’s KGF-2 thronged the BO with its huge collections.

One fateful Thursday in the city of Mumbai invites tremendous horror when Naina, a nursery school teacher, holds 16 children hostage and produces a list of unfathomable demands.

  1.  Ponniyin Selvan 1

IMDb Rating: 8.1/10

Mani Ratnam’s dream project Ponniyin Selvan which has been in the making for a while, the part one finally arrived at the cinemas in Sept 2022. It stormed at the box office and went on to emerge as the all-time 2nd highest-grossing Tamil movie. It created and broke several box office records.
