One of the most famous and well-known film festivals in the world is the Cannes Film Festival. Every year it is held at Cannes, a city on the French Riviera. Feature films, documentaries, and short films are just a few of the genres that are shown at the festival. 

Who is invited to the film festival?

The Festival draws experts from the film, acting, and production industries from all around the world. It offers filmmakers a platform to showcase their work to a large audience and be recognised for their accomplishments.

What is the major event of Cannes?

The major event is the formal competition, where winners in different categories, including the Palme d’Or (Golden Palm) for best film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and other awards, are chosen by a jury made up of renowned film industry professionals. One of the biggest achievements in the film industry is being awarded the Palme d’Or.

Indian films that will be  screened at Cannes 2023!

The 76th Cannes Film Festival will run from May 16 through May 27, 2023.  Where four Indian movies will be shown at Cannes 2023 this year: Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy in Midnight Screenings, Kanu Behl’s Agra in Directors’ Fortnight, Nehemich in La Cinef, and a restored Manipuri movie called Ishanhou in the Classics section.

History says it all;

The Palme d’Or, first given out in 1955, is the festival’s top honor, and in the past, Indian films have frequently taken home the awards. Numerous Indian films, ranging from Neecha Nagar (1946) to Kharij (1982), have either received or been nominated for the coveted Palme d’Or award.  There are about fifteen movies that have won in the past, and about ten movies were nominated.

Conclusion

Even though it is heartbreaking to realize that India will not have any Palme d’Or winners this year, our rich history implies that we are more than capable of doing so in the future.
