On the occasion of completing 75 years of independence by India, India-UK Achievers honours awarded 75 Indians in London. And one of them is also our former prime minister, Dr Manmohan singh, who got this award for his contribution to the economy and political life. He will receive his award in Delhi later, which will be given by National Indian Students and Alumni Union (NISAU) UK.
About Manmohan singh
Manmohan singh has been India’s prime minister for 10 years (2004-2014), finance minister for 5 years (1991-1996) and RBI governor for 3 years (1982-1985). His contribution towards India is commendable. He is the man behind the economic reforms of India. He brings LPG (Liberalization, privatization and globalisation) which gives a new direction to the economy and takes it to the global level. Before that India’s economy was mostly dependent on the agricultural industry.
He take over the finance ministry when India was going through a financial crisis. Unfortunately he was never able to win a public election. He always had to go through rajya sabha, whether he become the prime minister or finance minister.
He gets many awards for his contribution to the economy not just in India but in other countries, lifetime achievement honour by the UK is the latest addition to his award list. In the state honours, he won Japan’s highest imperial honour and won Padma Bhushan in India. In 2005 he was in the top 100 most influential people in the world list by times magazine.
