It is believed that the Sindhi community took birth 5 lakh years ago in stone age. But the actual evidence of Sindhi’s we have is from 5000 years ago in the Indus Valley civilization, so here I’m going to discuss some interesting facts about the community.

In the annual report of 1921–22 on the archaeological survey of India, the word Mohenjo-Daro is a Sindi name that meant mount of death. In some evidence of seals and coins that were used as currency, we get swastika and shiv, which means Sindhis were experts at craving stones, well educated, and also followers of Vedic dharma. Sindhis were good architects who also developed their homes with proper drainage systems. They used to wear jewellery and turbans or headgear.

George F. Dales wrote in his book, “Civilization and Floods in the Indus Valley,” that the Sindhis were after the vanishing of civilization in the flood, not in one or two instances but seven times.

The first written evidence of Sindhi is from the 8th century BC Sindhi translation of the Mahabharata, even though there is a mention of a Sindhi warrior named Jayadratha.

Persian king Cyrus the Great ruled at sindh from 535bc to 515bc at that era 1/3 of the revenue generated tax from Sindh region at the period of Alexander the Great Greek historian wrote that they never saw a Sindhi single person faced poverty and most prosperous and rich community ever. 

In the 3rd and 2nd centuries bc, Sindhis were part of the Maurya dynasty until, at the end of the 1st century bc, the Kushan rulers had India’s marine sailors attach Sindu ghats to the China Silk Road for trading.

Gupta dynasty, 375 A.D.

After these, there was a second wave of Aryans who established Hindus once more in the Sindh region. The book of al-biruni, indica mention that Rajput also ruled here 450-643ad the there was an era of peace and prosperity in between these Iran’s tried to arrive but they failed, but marriages were common between irani and sindhi.

Raja dahir last hindu sindhi king who ruled from 663-712ad at that period sindhi community enjoyed peace but in 711ad rule of  mohammad bin qasim they won the land of sindh and Arab people mis behave with sindhi. They took lots of doctors, physicians, therapists, and scholars to Baghdad.

Lots of Sindhi scholars adopted Islam and translated medical science, astronomy, philosophy, mathematics, music, music astrology, and Sanskrit into the Arbi language.

Now we will study the effects of different cultures, religions, and kings on the community. After the ruling of the Arabs for more than 300 years, until 500 years ago, the local Sindhi converted to Islam; the Sommara dynasty (1026–1440 AD) ruled till 1351–1524 AD and was called the peaceful and golden era of the Sindhi community. In spite of the Persian language the Arabic language took place. Which gave birth to Sufism and poetry and gave a new identity to this community. In 1759 the holy book Quran was translated in sindhi. 

In the 18th century, under Mukarram Khan or Mirkshah of Islamic rule, there was the exploitation of the Hindus and conversion of religion forcefully; it is believed that Hindu Sindhis, after the fast of 40 days, presided over God on the bank of the Sindhu River. It is interesting that both Sindhi Hindus and Sindhi Muslims believe in one saint with different names: Khwaja khizr or Sheikh Tahir, while Hindus preach Darya Shah or Udero Lal.

Because of Sufism there is a huge respect for Muslim saints and their mausoleum (makabara)tomb infact in sindh there is a place called as thatta makli tomb between 5 lacks to 10 lakh graveyard are there which is more than house in that area in the year 1981 came under UNESCO declared as a world heritage site.

British era

The Sindis had Most progressives adopted British culture and British rules very easily. This was very helpful to get a job and establish a business. Sindhis are not only involved in manufacturing but also in exporting to another region also.A time also came when only 23% of the population occupied 42% of the Sindh area with owner’s rights.

Mostly in the surnames of Sindhis, they include’ ANI’ such as Nichwani, Nathani, Nathani, etc. After the study, we get to know the fact that ANI is a Sanskrit word that means descendants. 

The Sindhi  are so courageous and strong faced lots of ups and downs, especially at the time of partitions some of them leave their motherland some were left as refugees on own motherland which was the biggest pain but never loosen their courage and did not only in India but international level making India very proud and Sindhi community proud. In every field and sector. Civil services, film or fashion industry, business
