Shiv Sena: Balasaheb Thackeray’s Legacy

Shiv Sena: Balasaheb Thackeray's Legacy

Balasaheb Thackeray popularly referred to as Bal Thackeray was a colossus in Indian politics. A Maharashtrian by birth he conquered everyone’s respect in India. He floated a party called Shiv Sena to address common people’s problems and grievances. He was instrumental in managing crime in Mumbai, the stomach of India. Hence the people of Maharashtra adored and hero-worshipped him.

For instance, when legendary Superstar Amitabh Bachchan was lying in bed ill, and no ambulance was ready to take him to the hospital, then Bal Thackeray intervened and sent an ambulance to carry him to a hospital. The superstar’s life was saved.

Uddhav Thackeray, son of Balasaheb, was at first reluctant to foray into politics. His cousin Raj Thackeray was more into politics with Balasaheb. The bond between Uddhav and Raj was intact until the time came when both wanted to win the Chief Minister’s seat

Love and affection turned into a rivalry. Balasaheb and his brother Srikanth Thackeray married two sisters, but the post of CM of Maharashtra ignited ambition in both of them.

Ever since the Shiv Sena came into power the chasm between them increased. Bal resided in his bungalow Matosree and so many people came to visit him. Since Uddhav was also there he also met all the visitors. Raj was uninvited and he also did not visit them.

As of now, it is apparent to everybody concerned that Uddhav has become CM while Raj was swept out of the elections. Many of his MLAs lost their deposits in elections. So ruminating about Bal’s legacy Uddhav emerged as a winner. It is yet to be seen what happens next.
