Footwear refers to garment worn on feet, which typically serves purpose of protection against adversities of the environment such as ground texture  and temperature.shoes primarily to save from leg injury . Footwear can also be used for fashion and adornment to indicate status or rank of person within society .

Even socks and hosiery are typically worn additionally between feet and shoe for further comfort and relief. in some culture people remove their shoes before entering house. bare foot are also seen as sign of humanity  and respect and adherents of many worship or mourn   religion. some religious communities explicitly require people to remove their shoes before they enter holy buildings such as temples.

Vedic era   (800bce- 1500bce) in India wearing footwear started from the Vedic period,

The Kushan era(130bc-185ad) Gupta era (320ad-550ad)

We can see through evidence in paintings and coins of the Gupta period symbols of footwear were used, in the the ancient period footwear was mostly made of wooden or tree bark or metal were used. that period this footwear was called upnah or paduka.

Where upnah were worn by traders and businessmen of that era the paduka was worn by dharam guru or spiritual teachers, and the saints and sages of ancient India were worn wooden slippers as ‘khadau’ or padukas because it believe they knew the concept of electric current in body &earth gravity which absorbed all constantly flowing waves.this reduces our biological potency and as wood is bad conductor of electricity hence the sages chose it to fashion their khadi and padukas.

The padukas also provide ample pressure on subtle acupressure points on the feet, which help in regulating blood pressure, muscle tension/strain. improving digestion uptake of oxygen and excretion of toxic out of the body.  in Indian tradition touching foot is a way to show respect to elders to take their blessing.so 

Their is a incident in Indian mythology Ramayana when lord rama was in vanvas (exile) his younger brother Bharat came to meet lord Rama to come back and to rule ayodhaya. but rama lord denied to return ayodhaya because he don’t want to  disrespect his father (dasrath) oder, hence bharat took lord rama paduka to ayodhaya.and even preaching of toes of god and goddess was part of indian culture from a period of long time.
