The Iranian judiciary hanged two more protesters for allegedly killing a paramilitary officer during the anti-hijab protests. The protesters Mohammad Mahdi Karami and Seyed Mohammad Hosseini were charged and found guilty of ‘corruption on earth’.
They were prosecuted for allegedly killing Ruhollah Ajamian, a paramilitary officer. The officer was allegedly stripped naked and murdered by a group of protesters. Judicial news agency Mizan Online reported, “Mohammad Mahdi Karami and Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini, the main perpetrators of the crime that led to the martyrdom of Ruhollah Ajamian, were hanged this morning”.
In September 2022, massive anti-hijab protests erupted all over the country against the clerical establishment when Mahsa Amini, a woman was killed in custody after being arrested by Iran’s morality police for allegedly wearing her headscarf wrong.

According to Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) so far 516 protesters have been killed including 70 children, whereas 19,262 others have been detained. Many of these detained protesters have been tortured, enforced disappearance, and much more.
They were first sentenced to death in December 2022, however, both of them appealed their sentences. They claimed that they were tortured into making false confessions. According to Hosseini’s lawyer, they were blindfolded and beaten while in prison. They were also tasered and beaten on the soles of their feet with a metal rod, claims Ali Sharifzadeh Ardakani.
Karami’s lawyer said that Karami wasn’t allowed to choose his own lawyer. Instead, he was given state-appointed lawyers. His family wasn’t also allowed to meet him before his execution.
Many human rights groups have called it a ‘sham’ trial. Amnesty International says that the trial was a ‘fast-tracked unfair group trial’. They also said that the Iranian authorities are seeking death penalties for 26 more protesters.

Since December, the number of executions in connection with the protests now stands at four. Majiderza Rahnavard, a 23-year-old man was hanged publicly from a crane for allegedly killing two members of the security forces with a knife while also wounding others. Another 23-year-old man, Mohsen Shekari was executed for blocking a street and wounding a member of Iran’s Basij force with a knife.
